Motivate Me

As I write this I’m running on very little sleep. Just finished a week-long vacation where I drove from Corpus Christi, TX to Miami. 24 hours there, 24 hours back. On top of time changes, late nights in Miami, and travel fatigue, I’m trying to cut back on my unusually high caffeine levels.

Needless to say I’m not feeling too motivated to blog, to create, to clean up my messy yard…anything really. So how do I get motivated? I’m not entirely sure. These are some things I’m going to be trying:

  • Switching from Google Chrome to the new Firefox version.
  • Researching and buying a new computer.
  • Reading a good fiction book.
  • Skyping with some buddies.
  • Sleeping.

What are the things that get you motivated when you just aren’t feeling it?

It takes a certain person or group of friends to speak motivation into me. That may sound strange but when I’m feeling low on motivation it helps me to be around people, friends who inspire and encourage me.

Here’s one type of motivation that works well for me when I have lots of boring work to do. First, I’m a podcast geek and I have hours and hours of lectures, audio books, and radio shows that I’m trying to get through. Today I have lots of busy work to do, the kind of mundane, boring work that nobody is ever motivated to do. So, in order to motivate myself, I put on lecture on to run in the background and then I work. To some people this would make it even more boring, but for me, it works!
